Mimesis 2022 - In Review

In 2022, Mimesis held its annual hybrid (in-person + virtual) Documentary Festival, hosted in August by the Dairy Arts Center in Boulder, Colorado. An event attended by hundreds of artists, students, scholars, and members of the community, MDF showcased 70+ works by some of the most dynamic voices in documentary and ethnographic media. This year’s Festival also included a Masterclass with Featured Artist Iva Radivojević plus a very rare and well received screening of her latest feature length work, Aleph. We’re so grateful that Iva could join us in-person, her presence brought the festival to life.

Programming at MDF 2022 could not have been accomplished without the tireless work of our dedicated programming team who crafted programs that brought important ideas together to amplify artists’ voices. Thank you, Sarah Biagini, Luiza Parvu, and Nima Bahremand. Your work is deeply appreciated.

The technical and administrative execution of the festival was made possible by Festival Director Curt Heiner, Mimesis Center Director Eric Coombs Esmail, Social Media Manager Sophia Schelle, and staffer Diana Wilson. Thank you so much for all your work. We would also like to extend our gratitude to Toma Peiu for all his hard work on the ground during the festival, it would not have been possible without him.

Thank you to all the staff at the Dairy, with a special mention to Glenn Webb and Shay Wescott. The Dairy has proven to be a wonderful partnership and home for Mimesis and we look forward to many more years to come.

And most of all, thank you to Mimesis artists, who contributed their work to our community and who traveled to Boulder, either virtually or in person. Your work and your presence are what make this event so special.
